Why Join the Girls Inc. of Carpinteria Board?
Girls Inc. of Carpinteria has always been more than a place where programs happen. For generations of girls and families, it has been a constant — a trusted, welcoming space where girls are encouraged to grow into confident, capable leaders.
Behind that work is a dedicated Board of Directors who help guide the organization’s vision, steward its resources, and strengthen its connection to the broader community. As Girls Inc. of Carpinteria looks ahead to its next chapter, we are inviting new voices to help shape what comes next.
A Meaningful Way to Lead — Locally
Serving on the Girls Inc. of Carpinteria Board is an opportunity to make a tangible impact right here in our region. Board members play an active role in ensuring that girls across Carpinteria, Ventura, and Santa Barbara have access to programs that support their academic success, physical well-being, leadership development, and long-term independence.
Board service is not about titles — it’s about contributing your perspective, professional expertise, and lived experience to an organization that puts girls at the center of everything it does.
As board member Bianca Vega shares:
“I enjoy serving on the Girls Inc. of Carpinteria board because it allows me to support an organization that truly empowers girls to be strong, smart, and bold. Being part of the board gives me the opportunity to help bring to fruition programs that build confidence, leadership, and opportunity for young people in our community. I’m continually inspired by the staff, fellow board members, and—most of all—the girls whose voices and potential drive this work forward.”
What Board Service Looks Like
Girls Inc. of Carpinteria values board members who are engaged, thoughtful, and committed to the mission. Board members serve three-year terms, with the option to renew for an additional term, and are expected to participate actively in meetings and committee work.
The time commitment averages three to five hours per month, including one board meeting and preparation time. Board members also serve on at least one standing committee — such as fund development, finance, programs, facilities, or events — allowing individuals to contribute where their skills are most impactful.
Responsibilities include:
- Supporting the organization’s mission, strategic direction, and long-term planning
- Helping ensure financial stewardship and organizational sustainability
- Acting as ambassadors for Girls Inc. of Carpinteria in the community
- Strengthening the organization’s reputation and relationships
- Supporting the Executive Director and staff as partners in leadership
This is hands-on governance with real influence — and real outcomes.
Who We’re Hoping to Reach
Girls Inc. of Carpinteria is seeking professionals from a range of backgrounds who share a passion for advancing women and girls and who are eager to give back locally. There is particular interest in expanding board representation from Ventura and Santa Barbara, bringing in new perspectives while maintaining strong roots in Carpinteria.
Experience in areas such as education, finance, law, healthcare, marketing, human resources, operations, or community leadership is especially valuable — but just as important is a belief in the power of opportunity, mentorship, and equity.
Board President Peter Dugre reflects on the value of board service:
“I serve on the Girls Inc. of Carpinteria board because I believe in the mission and in this reputable organization’s ability to fulfill it. Serving has been a rewarding experience, equal parts learning from my colleagues and lending my experience and time to guiding our success. It’s a collaborative group, and I could not be more proud to be part of inspiring girls to believe in their potential and advancing Girls Inc.’s long-term ability to deliver quality programming to generations of girls and young women.”
